EL PASO, Texas (KTSM)– A few local churches are partnering with Child Protective Services (CPS) to help meet the needs of foster families and children involved in the child welfare system.
The online platform Care Portal provides a way for CPS to connect the needs of local children and families with people at local churches who can meet those needs.
“Workers can go into the home and see a family that’s in need of an item and they can go back to the platform and share that information in the system. Then that email goes out to the participating churches in El Paso to be able to meet that need for the family,” Maritza Hernandez, a faith-based and community engagement specialist for CPS said.
About 20 local churches are registered in the portal and the Rock Faith Center in East El Paso is one of them. The church works with CPS to provide items like beds, car seats and other essentials to kids who have been displaced from their home.
“If every church took care of one child, there would be no need at all. And so, we get people together in churches, and especially at churches and in community efforts, we can meet every single need as soon as they come in,” Pastor Eric Hallback said.
CPS said they are always looking for donations. For more information on how to donate, you can call Maritza Hernandez at (915) 309-3595.
