EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The El Paso City Council voted to spend about $42,000 to hire a search firm to find a permanent city manager during its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The City of El Paso has been without a permanent city manager since the council voted last year not to extend Tommy Gonzalez’s contract.
Cary Westin, who has been serving as interim city manager since last summer, has said he does not want to the job on a permanent basis.
The council voted 6-1 to hire Baker Tilly US of Madison, Wisconsin to help with the search.
City Rep. Josh Acevedo was the only council member to vote “no.”
