EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso is inviting the community to the Live Active El Paso Day event this weekend to stay active and healthy.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Marty Robbins Park located at 11620 Vista Del Sol Dr.
According to the City, the celebration is free to everyone of all ages and will feature a 3K walk/run, interactive booths and a variety of activities, giveaways and prizes.
The 3K marathon will begin at 8 a.m., according to the City.
“We are excited to celebrate the longevity of this wellness initiative that started during the COVID-19 pandemic to get people moving and help them to make their health a priority,” said Parks and Recreation Director Pablo Caballero. “We will continue to provide Live Active EP as an opportunity for our community to focus on their health and wellbeing.”
In addition to the activities, the Department of Public Health and the Fire Department will be providing free flu vaccines to people six months and older, according to the City.
“Every year during the fall and winter seasons, many El Pasoans become ill with respiratory diseases and the flu is one of those viruses that can cause severe complications, requiring hospitalization and in some cases death,” said Dr. Hector Ocaranza City/County Health authority. “The flu vaccine can save lives by providing protection against those complications, thus preventing hospitalization and death. It is extremely important that everyone get their flu shot annually before the flu season.”
Free flu shots will also be available at El Paso Community Clinics. For a complete list of locations and times of operation, visit their website here.
