The City Council received an update on Monday, June 10 during its work session on plans to turn part of Morehead Middle School into the newest facility for Animal Services.

The plan is to open the animal shelter sometime in July, officials said.

The City had bought the property at 5625 Confetti Drive from El Paso Independent School District to serve as an emergency shelter for migrants when needed and as an animal shelter.

The former school has not been used to house migrants for months.
