EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department celebrated National Arbor Day with the grand opening of a new community garden in East El Paso.
The garden opened on Friday, April 25, and is located at the Eastside Senior Center, located at 3200 Fierro Dr.

According to the news release by the City, the new garden will serve as a “green hub” for the neighborhood, providing opportunities to grow fresh produce, participate in educational workshops and strengthen community connections through shared outdoor experiences.
“This community garden is more than just a place to grow plants; it’s a place to grow community,” Parks and Recreation Director Pablo Caballero said. “On National Arbor Day, we’re reminded of the powerful role that green spaces play in creating a healthier, more connected city.”
The free Arbor Day event included planting activities, guest speakers, live performances, food vendors, informational booths and more.
In addition, the El Paso Animal Services also offered free on-site microchipping for the first 25 pets and low-cost pet vaccinations, according to the City of El Paso.
