EL PASO, Texas (KTSM)— City Representative for District 1, Brian Kennedy, announced his run for El Paso mayor in 2024. “After much consideration, I have decided to add my name to the mayor’s race,” he said.
Kennedy filed his paperwork at the City Clerk’s office this morning. He will join councilmember Cassandra Hernandez and candidates Renard Johnson, Marco Contreras, Steven Winters, Ryan Houle, and Jacob Chavira in the race for Mayor.
“I know what I want to see from the Mayor of our city. I just haven’t seen the strength or leadership from the current roster of contenders that I think we need to provide a stable environment for 3000 City of El Paso employees and hundreds of thousands of El Pasoans who want to know the job is being done, said Kennedy, “I don’t want a ringside seat at a train wreck. I want to make sure the train keeps rolling in the right direction” he added.

With his announcement, a vacancy for District 1 will be created under the state’s resigned to run provision, which falls under the Texas Constitution.
Rep. Kennedy’s first term as councilmember expires December 2026
The El Paso Mayor election is on November 5.
