EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso Recreation Department is launching a pilot recycling program at all its recreational facilities.
“The initiative aims to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and encourage residents to adopt environmentally friendly practices in their daily lives,” the City said in a news release.
As part of the program, recycling bins will be placed in key areas throughout Parks and Recreation facilities, making it easier for visitors to recycle paper, plastics, aluminum, and other recyclable materials.
Informational signs, developed in collaboration with the Environmental Services Department’s Recycle Right Outreach Team, will help guide proper recycling practices, the City said.
“Our recreation centers are hubs for community engagement, and we are excited to introduce this program to further our commitment to sustainability,” Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Emigdio Gonzalez said. “By making recycling more accessible, we hope to inspire residents to take an active role in protecting our environment.”
Recycling bins will be strategically located across all Parks and Recreation facilities, including recreation centers, community centers, senior centers, aquatics facilities, and sports fields. They will also be available during events organized by the department.
The pilot recycling program supports the City’s broader sustainability goals and is part of ongoing efforts to reduce landfill waste and lower the community’s carbon footprint, the City said.
