KTSM News – Closings, schedule changes for Juneteenth

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Here is a list of closings or amended schedules for Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19.

Las Cruces Public Schools

All administrative offices at Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, the district said in a press release.

The district will resume business hours on Friday, June 20.

“Recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth serves as a time for reflection, education and the celebration of freedom and progress,” the district said.

City of Las Cruces

Most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed Thursday, June 19 However, all emergency services, including police and fire will operate as usual.

City offices and facilities closed Thursday, June 19 for Juneteenth include:

  • A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven.
  • City Hall.
  • Youth Development & Diversion Program
  • East Mesa Recreation Center.
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center.
  • Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and its branch libraries.
  • All museums.
  • Rio Grande Theatre.
  • All Senior Programs services and facilities.
  • South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices.
  • Visit Las Cruces.
  • Roadrunner Transit Administrative offices

Operating, or open, with hours, includes:

  • All solid waste commercial and residential services will operate as usual on June 19
  • The Foothills Landfill will be open with regular business hours on June 19
  • South Central Solid Waste curbside collection services will operate with regular hours.
  • Corralitos Landfill and the Amador Transfer Station, 2865 W. Amador Ave., will be open with regular hours.
  • Roadrunner Transit bus and Dial-A-Ride services will operate 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Customer Service office will be open.
  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center will be open 1 – 5 p.m.
  • Regional Aquatic Center will be open noon to 7 p.m.
  • Las Cruces Natatorium will be open from 6 to 11 a.m.
  • Laabs Outdoor Pool Open Swim Session I: noon – 3:00 p.m., Open Swim Session II: 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Texas Tech Health El Paso

The Texas Tech Health El Paso campus, including libraries, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics and the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic, will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day.

Normal hours of operation will resume on Friday, June 20.

Postal Service

Postal Service retail locations will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery except for holiday premium Priority Mail Express on Thursday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.

All retail locations will be open for normal business hours, and regular mail delivery will resume the next business day, Friday, June 20.

Customers are still able to order stamps, shipping supplies, print shipping labels, and request package pickups 24/7, including holidays, online. Stamps are also sold at most major grocery stores, big box stores, some pharmacies, and even ATMs.

City of El Paso

All City of El Paso administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. All administrative offices will resume business on Friday, June 20.

Residential trash and recycling will be collected, and the Greater El Paso Landfill and Citizen Collection Stations will be open for business.

The following businesses and offices will be operating on Thursday, June 19:

Open

  • El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Animal Services:
    • Main Shelter (5001 Fred Wilson): 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Mission Valley (9068 Socorro): noon to 2 p.m.
    • Westside Adoption Center (5625 Confetti Dr.): noon to 2 p.m.
  • Sun Metro (Streetcar, fixed, and paratransit services): regular service hours
  • El Paso Water Parks
  • All City Spray Parks: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Closed/No Service

  • Department of Public Health, STD & HIV Prevention and Surveillance, Community Clinics, Medicaid Waiver Program, WIC Offices, Rawlings Dental Clinic
  • Municipal Court/Bond Offices
  • Museum of Archaeology, Museum of Art, Museum of History, Mexican American Cultural Center
  • One-Stop Shop
  • Public Libraries
  • Recreation Centers, Senior Centers, and Aquatic Centers
  • Tax Office
