KTSM News – Closures, schedule changes for upcoming winter holidays

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The following is a list of closures and schedule changes in the El Paso and Las Cruces region for the upcoming winter holidays.

El Paso County

All El Paso County Administrative Offices will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Regular business hours will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2. The El Paso County Commissioners Court will hold its last regular session for the year on Monday, Dec. 16, and its last special session on Thursday, Dec.19. County business will resume at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6.

The following will be closed for the holidays:

Enrique Moreno County Courthouse

Commissioners Court

The following will be open for the holidays:

Ascarate Golf Course

6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dec. 24 and Jan. 31st- 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

All County Parks

6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

City of El Paso

In observance of the December holiday season, the City of El Paso administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

The following services and facilities will be closed:

Animal Services Shelter(s)

Aquatics Facilities and Sports Fields

Museum of Archaeology, Museum of Art, and Museum of History 

City Community Clinics

El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens

One-Stop Shop

Public Libraries

Rawlings Dental Clinic 

Recreation Centers, Senior Centers, and Aquatic Centers

Municipal Court/Bond Offices

STD & HIV Prevention and Surveillance 

WIC Offices 

Environmental Services

The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department to include its Greater El Paso Landfill, Citizen Collection Stations and Collection Services will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Trash and recycling bins will not be collected on Christmas or New Year’s Day.

The makeup days for gray and blue bins are Saturday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 4.

Sun Metro

Sun Metro will run Sunday/Holiday schedules for Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. Administrative and ticket offices will be closed.

Free rides will be provided all day on Dec. 25 to individuals of all ages. No passes required. LIFT paratransit service will also provide free rides on Christmas Day. LIFT rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by calling (915) 212-5438.

The El Paso Streetcar will not provide service Wednesday, Dec. 25, nor Wednesday, Jan. 1.

El Paso Community College

El Paso Community College will observe a staff winter break starting Monday, Dec. 23, and will return on Monday, Jan. 6. Students will observe a winter break as well and return to classes on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

There will be no student services. Registration is always available on the EPCC Self-Service Banner.

EPCC will hold extended hours for spring registration at the Valle Verde Enrollment Services Center from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, and Friday, Jan. 3.

The 2025 spring semester will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 21, following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance.

Doña Ana Community College

Doña Ana Community College (DACC) campuses and centers will be closed for several days for the upcoming winter holidays. All centers and campuses will be closed beginning Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 1. Campuses and centers will re-open for regular hours on Thursday, Jan. 2.  

DACC will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

Doña Ana County

Doña Ana County administrative offices will observe the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

Emergency services, including law enforcement and fire, will not be affected by the closure. However, their administrative offices will also close.

All County offices will resume regular business hours at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.

City of Las Cruces

City Hall and most other City of Las Cruces offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25; Thursday, Dec. 26; and Wednesday, Jan. 1  for the Christmas, Winter and New Year’s Day holidays. Emergency services such as fire and police will not be affected.

Las Cruces Natatorium Closed (Open from 6 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24)

Castaneda Service Center (Parks & Recreation Admin Offices) Closed

Thomas Branigan, Sage Café and Munson Libraries Closed (Branigan Library Open until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24)

City Solid Waste Administrative Offices Closed

No Commercial or Residential waste collections (Residential waste for Wednesday and Thursday will be collected Thursday, Dec. 26. Commercial waste will be collected a day in advance – Monday collections will take place Sunday, Dec. 22. Tuesday collections will take place Monday, Dec. 23. Wednesday collections will take place Tuesday, Dec. 24)

Foothills Landfill Closed

Roadrunner Transit Closed on Christmas Day (Will run on Saturday level of service 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24/Admin Offices Closed)

Visit Las Cruces Closed 

Rio Grande Theatre Closed (Also Closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24)

Senior Programs and Centers Closed (Eastside, Sage Café, and Benavidez Senior Centers Open until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24; Munson Center Open until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24)

All Museums Closed (All Museums Open until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24)

South Central Solid Waste Authority – No residential or Commercial recycling pickup on Wednesday, Dec. 25. Instead Wednesday pickups will occur on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Socorro Independent School District

Socorro ISD will have student and teacher early release day on Friday, Dec. 20. The early release schedule is:

Elementary & PK-8 schools — 11:45 a.m.

Middle schools — 12:05 p.m.

High schools — 12:55 p.m.

Socorro ISD facilities and schools will be closed for the winter break from Monday, Dec. 23 through Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.

Staff professional development will be on Monday, Jan. 6, and Tuesday, Jan. Classes for students will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Texas Tech Health El Paso

Texas Tech Health El Paso will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 26, in observance of winter break and will resume normal operations on Friday, Dec. 27.

Texas Tech Health El Paso will also be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s and will resume normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 2.

This includes Texas Tech Health El Paso libraries, all Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics and the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic.
