KTSM News – Corazones Enamorados helps brings awareness to caregivers in El Paso

Posted on April 11, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Bringing awareness through the power of art.

The Outlet Shoppes of El Paso held a special art exhibition on Wednesday, April 11, named “Corazones Enamorados.”

The art exhibit, which was held inside of the food court, featured over 20 art pieces made by local artisans.

All sales of the art pieces will be donated to Hearts to be Healed, a nonprofit organization that provides support and resources for caregivers.

Co-founder of Hearts to be Healed and the Texas Culinary Institute, Yvonne Enriquez, said that this event was a special one, close to her heart.

Enriquez lost her mother two years ago from cancer, and that’s what made her want to start the nonprofit organization.

“Today’s event is to create a conscious for the nonprofit Hearts to be Healed. Hearts to be Healed to help caregivers, and by caregivers, I mean the family members who take care of their loved ones,” Enriquez said.

“We saw what disadvantages that the caregivers go through. Sometimes they have to leave their work, empty their schedules so they can take care of their sick ones. They don’t know where to start. We always look at the patients, but never look at the people who take care of the patients, they go through a lot as well,” Enriquez said.

The marketing director of the Outlet Shoppes, Andrea Alonso, said that this is only the first of many art exhibits they want to do for the community.

“We welcome you to come and see the arts we will place around the center, they have very important meaning, each one supporting a cause. Each one (exhibit) will have a different topic or theme, but we welcome the community and for love to always persist,” Alonso said.

The first art installation they will have is a huge metallic heart, made for “Corazon de Nino,” which helps low-income children get heart surgeries and treatments throughout the community, Alonso said.
