EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Courthouse in Downtown will get a new microwave dish that will be placed on top of the building.
The dish placement will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, El Paso County said.
This is the final phase of what the County is calling a “major radio communications” improvement project that will enhance connectivity and redundancy between the County Courthouse and the Fabens Rest Area.
The P25 project is “vital to ensuring robust and reliable radio communications for first responders and law-enforcement agencies that include El Paso Police, El Paso Fire, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office; constables; and external law-enforcement partners,” the County said.
The project, led by Motorola, includes upgrading 10 microwave links and modernizing key infrastructure that connects antenna sites throughout the region, the County said.
The replacement of the County Courthouse’s rooftop microwave dish will significanty improve system availability and resilience.
The $2.3 million project is being funded by the City of El Paso and the County, with the County contributing 42 percent of the cost.
Overland Avenue will be closed between Kansas Street and Campbell Street throughout July 19.
The County Courthouse and parking facility will be open, but detour signs will be in place to guide vehicles and pedestrians.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time.
