EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Officials with El Paso County and the Hospital District gathered Friday, March 1 to honor the hard-working health-care workers who kept showing up and doing their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony, at University Medical Center’s main lobby, honored what County officials are calling “COVID heroes” at UMC, at El Paso Children’s Hospital and El Paso Health.
County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said that these heroes showed “us the way forward during the pandemic” and saved countless lives.
“So many people tell me about a grandmother or a grandfather who would have died if UMC hadn’t come to their aid and gone through intensive care,” Samaniego said.
Samaniego said health-care workers are “hidden heroes to some and to others, they are very obvious heroes.”
