UPDATE: El Paso County Commissioners Court voted Monday to approve two items and move ahead with $1.2 million of improvements at the County Sportspark.
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court is considering two related items to move ahead with improvements at the El Paso County Sportspark during its meeting on Monday, July 14.
Commissioners are considering $1.2 million of upgrades at the Sportspark, located at 1780 N. Zaragoza Road.
The first item would authorize the purchase and installation of new LED lighting fixtures and electrical wiring.
The second item would authorize County Judge Ricardo Samaniego to sign a construction contract with Musco Sports Lighting for the project.
The project would replace outdated lighting with modern LED systems, improve safety, visibility and energy efficiency, the County said on the meeting agenda.
El Paso County voters approved $95.6 million for improvements for County parks and recreation facilities last November. It was one of three bond issues that passed. A new office for the medical examiner and a new animal shelter were also approved.
Improvements for the County Coliseum and improvements for courthouse and annex projects were both voted down by the voters.
The Sportspark improvements are part of that parks bond issue that was approved.
