KTSM News – County to host final gun buyback event this weekend

Posted on August 11, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso County will host its fourth and final gun buyback event this weekend.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ascarate County Tax Office, 301 Manny Martinez Dr.

In partnership with the El Paso County Attorney’s Office, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of El Paso County Commissioner for Precinct 1, County officials will offer prepaid gift cards in exchange for unwanted firearms. Nonfunctional firearms and ammunition will also be accepted.

The event is completely anonymous — no questions asked, the County said. Participants can drive up and voluntarily turn in their firearms in.

The program prioritizes public safety by removing unwanted weapons from homes, reducing the risk of theft, accidents, or tragic misuse. Guns collected at the event will be safely destroyed in accordance with County and federal guidelines, the County said.

The following items will be accepted:

$50 – Non-functioning firearms

$100 – Rifles and shotguns

$150 – Handguns

$200 – Assault rifles

Ammunition will also be accepted; however, it will not be reimbursed. Ghost guns will not be accepted.
