EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court is scheduled to vote on and possibly adopt a tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year at its meeting on Monday, Aug. 26.
The Commissioners Court can adopt any rate below the Voter-Approval Tax Rate. Going above that rate would require voter approval.
County commissioners will hear public comments and decide on a “rate appropriate to meet the needs of this fiscal year,” according to the County.
Here is a breakdown from the County:
The Voter-Approval Tax Rate as calculated by the tax assessor collector is 0.478306 per $100 taxable property value.
The No-New-Revenue Tax Rate as calculated by the tax assessor collector is $0.426323 per $100 taxable property value. A county official told KTSM that the Court is expected to adopt the No-New-Revenue Tax Rate on Monday.
The current tax rate is .458889, so if the court adopts the No-New-Revenue tax rate, that would be a 3 cent decrease to the current tax rate. “And it would be a rate almost equal to what the tax rate was 10 years ago,” according to the County.
Monday’s meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse in the Judge Alicia R. Chacon County Commissioners Courtroom, 500 E. San Antonio.
