KTSM News – County votes for partial ban on fireworks for July 4th season

Posted on June 10, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Monday, June 10, to ban some fireworks during the upcoming July Fourth season.

County commissioners voted to prohibit the sale and use of aerial fireworks that are classified as “skyrockets with sticks” and “missiles with fins” in the unincorporated parts of the County.

The legal fireworks sale period lasts from June 24 to July 4.

The ban expires when the Texas Forest Service determines that drought conditions no longer exist in the County or on July 5, whichever is earlier.

The partial ban does not impact fireworks that stay primarily on the ground.

According to the order, a person will commit a Class C misdemeanor if they knowingly or intentionally violate the fireworks order issued by the County.

A Class C misdemeanor carries a maximum fine of $500 but no jail time.
