EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Residences and businesses in the Tierra Madre, Valle Vista, and Rio Vista subdivisions could experience discolored water due to water line repairs that caused a temporary drop in the water level at the Tierra Madre water tank, the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) said in a press release on Thursday, June 5.
The utility says the action could disturb sediments at the bottom of the tank, resulting in the potential for discoloration, and adjacent areas also may be affected.
The Tierra Madre Tank is one of three water tanks identified for sediment removal and rehabilitation by the Sunland Park City Council as part of a $1.2 million water improvement project the council unanimously approved this week, the utility said.
Although the water is safe to consume, the utility recommends waiting for the water to become clear before washing laundry.
“The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, residents should flush faucets for several minutes,” CRRUA said.
