EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A congressional staffer for U.S. Congressman Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, died over the weekend, and her death is under investigation by the Uvalde Police Department and the Texas Rangers.
According to the San Antonio Express, Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, 35, died after she caught on fire at her residence this past Saturday, Sept. 13, in Uvalde, Texas.

The incident was initially reported as a disturbance at the 200 block of Geraldine Avenue, and fire officials received a call of an individual who was on fire.
Uvalde Volunteer Fire Chief Mario Rangel spoke with the paper, saying that when they arrived at the residence, they discovered that a fire had been put out behind the residence with a fire extinguisher.
At the same time, EMS personnel were attending to a woman who had suffered burns, Rangel told the paper.
Santos-Aviles was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and later died due to her injuries.
Uvalde police say they have conducted an initial review of the incident and are coordinating with the Medical Examiner’s Office, Uvalde EMS, and the DPS Texas Rangers Office to complete the investigation.
The police department says there is no indication of foul play, and all unattended deaths are investigated.
“This is an ongoing criminal investigation; therefore, public information is limited,” stated Juli R. Alvarado, Uvalde Police Department Public Information Officer.
