KTSM News – Docs: Husband of city Rep. Cassandra Hernandez facing assault charge

Posted on December 13, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The husband of El Paso city Rep. Cassandra Hernandez is facing a charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly beat up another man at the couple’s home back in October when Hernandez was running for mayor, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.

Jeremy Jordan, 36, is facing a charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly assaulted a man who was “phone banking” with his wife on Oct. 22 about two weeks before the Nov. 5 general election.

However, court documents said that Hernandez and the other man were sitting in their underwear in the backyard when her husband arrived home.

According to court documents, Hernandez told police in a recorded statement that the male victim, age 33, was wearing a robe with only boxer briefs underneath and she was in her underwear when her husband arrived home.

Hernandez told police that she “believes that this is why (her husband) was so angry upon arriving at the home,” court documents said.

According to court documents, Hernandez and the victim were “phone banking” for her campaign in the backyard of the couple’s home. When Jordan arrived home, Hernandez told the victim to “go to the back” of the yard where they have a casita or secondary residence.

The male victim went inside the secondary residence, tried to hide in the bathroom, and locked the door, according to court documents.

Jordan allegedly broke the door open, pushed the victim against the floor of the shower, and began hitting the victim, according to court documents.

The victim attempted to block the punches with his hands and forearms and felt “pain and discomfort” in his face, head, neck, and hands, according to court documents.

Hernandez then entered the secondary residence and its bathroom and attempted to separate her husband and the victim.

Jordan then left the casita momentarily and then returned. The victim then tried to hide behind a washing machine in an adjacent room.

The victim told police that Jordan then grabbed a rotating fan and a piece of broken glass from a table that had fallen over, court documents said.

The victim told police that Jordan was holding the piece of glass, yelling threats, and calling him obscene names, court documents said.

Hernandez then drove the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The victim told police he feared for his life during the alleged assault, court documents said.

According to court documents, Jordan told police that there was “much more to the story” and said he was acting in “self-defense,” according to court documents.

Hernandez was one of eight mayoral candidates in the Nov. 5 election but did not finish in the top two and didn’t make the cut for the runoff, which will happen Saturday, Dec. 14.

Hernandez and Jordan issued a statement regarding a “personal matter impacting their family.”

It read: “They express deep regret for how this situation has affected their loved ones and are committed to working through it. During this challenging time, they respectfully request that the public honor their privacy as they navigate and heal from this matter.

“No further comments will be made, and no questions will be answered by any party involved,” the statement continued.
