EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man is facing a murder charge after allegedly stabbing another man behind a Circle K this past weekend in Las Cruces, according to court documents.
Court documents say William Clyde Turner, 51, is charged with one felony count of murder after stabbing Carlos Lakemper, 30, early Saturday morning, July 6, behind a Circle K located at 825 Avenida de Mesilla in Las Cruces.
An employee working at the time told police that Lakemper walked into the store and stated that he had been stabbed, according to court documents.
Lakemper gave police a description of the person who stabbed him and that person was identified to be Turner, according to court documents.
The employee told police that Turner had walked into the store earlier that same day, stating that he had been jumped and physically hit by another man. Turner then walked outside of the store, and minutes later Lakemper walked in with a stab wound, according to court documents.
Turner told police that he is currently homeless and was walking near the Circle K that morning when he saw Lakemper.
Turner told police that Lakemper was dating his ex-girlfriend Roxy and that Turner gave her $60.
Court documents say that Turner told police that Lakemper took the money from Roxy and Turner wanted the money back which led to the confrontation.
Turner told police that Lakemper started the physical altercation and that he could not defend himself from Lakemper.
After the altercation, Turner ran into the store and talked to the employees. He then walked outside and started to walk back towards his shopping cart and saw Lakemper with no shirt on, according to court documents.
Turner told police that he saw red on Lakemper’s back and thought it was blood from when they were on the ground. Turner also told police that he did not stab Lakemper and does not carry knives anymore.
A witness who saw the altercation told police that he knew both of the men and saw Turner stab Lakemper, according to court documents.
Lakemeper was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center for medical treatment where a doctor stated that he had a punctured right lung. Lakemper was then transported to UMC in El Paso that same day where he later died shortly before 10 a.m. as a result of his injuries.
Turner was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
