EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 20-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly shot his mother at least 11 times on early Monday morning, Oct. 13, in Santa Teresa, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.

Kevin Marin, 20, was charged with aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon and attempt to commit a felony of murder with no bond.

As KTSM previously reported, around 3 a.m. on Monday, a local hospital notified law enforcement about a patient with gunshot wounds, connected to a possible incident in Sunland Park.

Sunland Park Police investigate 2 separate shooting incidents

Sunland Park police officers responded to a home in the 5000 block of Ashwood Drive in Santa Teresa, and they found an active crime scene.

Upon arrival, a protective sweep of the home was conducted, and all occupants were directed to step out.

Officers encountered the following: approximately three semi-automatic rifle/carbine casings were located in Marin’s bedroom; two exit holes from an unknown firearm were observed on the outside of the residence facing west; and a bloody shoe impression as well as blood droplets were observed underneath a Jeep Wrangler in the driveway of the home, according to court documents.

Officers met with Marin’s brother, who stated that he had heard Marin screaming and yelling at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12. Marin’s brother went to check on Marin, who was in the kitchen, and told him to go to sleep. Marin’s brother also heard their mother, the victim, ask Marin to go to sleep because he was “acting crazy,” according to court documents.

Court documents state that around 3 a.m., Marin’s brother woke up to several loud sounds of gunshots that appeared to come from Marin’s room. He went to check on the commotion and encountered their mother in the hallway, bleeding. He then placed their mother into a white Prius and took her to a local hospital.

On the way to the hospital, Marin’s brother called their other brother to tell him what had happened and that Marin had shot their mother. The other brother then arrived at the home as initial officers were arriving.

Officers also met with a woman who was at the home at the time of the shooting, who said she was asleep with Marin’s brother and their son when she heard the victim scream for Marin’s brother. She said she saw the victim “bleeding heavily,” holding her waist/stomach area in the hallway outside of Marin’s bedroom, according to court documents.

She added that Marin’s brother took the victim to the hospital in the white Prius, and she then moved the Jeep Wrangler into the driveway. When she entered the home, she saw Marin sitting on the living room couch, according to court documents.

Another witness came forward, stating that he had gone to bed with the victim around 10 p.m. and, around an hour later, he heard the victim get out of bed and talking to Marin. Later, at approximately 3 a.m., the witness woke up to noise that sounded as if “someone had hit the wall very hard,” and he went to check on the noise. He observed the victim in the hallway, bleeding. He told Marin’s brother to take her to the hospital, according to court documents.

Officers later learned that the victim remains in critical condition, and doctors observed 11 gunshot wounds to her.
