EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police have identified a suspect in a stabbing at an East El Paso convenience store that left another man injured earlier this month, but are not recommending prosecution at this time because they consider the case to be self-defense.
That’s according to an incident report obtained by KTSM.
As we previously reported, police were called out just before 8 p.m. on June 6 to the Circle K at Montwood and Joe Battle Boulevard about reports of a fight in progress.
One man was stabbed and was transported to a local hospital. El Paso Fire dispatch said at the time, the victim was transported Code 3 (serious injuries).
According to the incident report, two men, who were both described as regulars at the store by a clerk who works there, got into a altercation around the coffee machine.
The man who ended up getting stabbed punched the other man several times before the other man stabbed the first with a pair of scissors, according to the incident report.
Police say they are treating the incident as self-defense at this time. We are not identifying the victim or the suspect because that man has not been charged with a crime.
The victim was seen walking around and even smoking a cigarette after being stabbed, according to the incident report.
The man who stabbed the other one remained at the store and was not aggressive toward anyone else, according to the incident report. The man initially identified as a suspect also walked away from the incident, went into the store’s restroom and isolated himself from the incident, according to the report.
