EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The pet owner of a dog that mauled two men in Central El Paso earlier this month has received 24 citations, according to El Paso Animal Services.
Animal Services confirmed to KTSM on Monday, Sept. 29, that protection officers issued 24 citations to the pet owner.
The pet owner was not identified by Animal Services.
As we have previously reported, two men were taken to the hospital after a dog attack led to an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the 2600 block of Nations Avenue.
Police responded that morning to the area after a 53-year-old man was attacked by a large dog that had gotten loose.
Another man in his 80s tried helping the other man and was also attacked by the dog.
A third man who was also in the area began to shoot a rifle at the dog, which is when two El Paso police officers arrived at the scene and ended up shooting and killing the dog to neutralize the situation.
“If you see any unknown animal, it’s always best to proceed with caution, whether it’s a stray/loose animal or an animal with their owner. If the animal does seem scared, vicious or aggressive, it’s best to leave the animal alone and call 311. When making a report to 311, provide as much information as possible on the animal and the situation, and leave your information as the caller so that if our Animal Protection Officers need to follow up with any questions they can reach the reporting party. If you find yourself in immediate danger, call 911.”
