EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Doña Ana County Sheriff Deputy Antonio Aleman will be escorted on Wednesday, July 9, to a funeral home in El Paso, according to Doña Ana County.
The County says Aleman will be escorted to the Funeraria Del Angel funeral home in El Paso once the Office of Medical Investigators’ examination is complete.
Sheriff personnel will continue to accompany Aleman until he is laid to rest, the County said.
As we have previously reported, Aleman was killed in a crash while on duty Tuesday afternoon, July 8, on I-10 near the Avenida De Mesilla exit.
Aleman was on duty when his unit collided with a semi-truck at about 5 p.m. in the area, the department said.
Aleman was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, where he died, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Deputy Aleman has been a valuable asset to the Sheriff’s Office since April 2021 and will be dearly missed. Aleman will be transported to the Office of Medical Investigators Tuesday night and returned home. DASO personnel will accompany Aleman until he is laid to rest, which will be announced at a later day,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Aleman was 33 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
The Sheriff’s Office said it “extends its deepest gratitude” to partnering agencies for the support they provided during the incident: Doña Ana Fire Rescue, New Mexico State Police Department, Border Patrol, Las Cruces Police Department, Las Cruces Fire Department and others.
