KTSM News – El Paso CBP officer found guilty of using excessive force

Posted on May 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A federal judge recently convicted a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer from El Paso for two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of falsification of a document in a federal investigation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office from the Western District of Texas.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Miguel Angel Delgado Jr., 40, used excessive force in two incidents while he was on duty at the Bridge of Americas Port of Entry between October 2019 and June 2022.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says as a result of Delgado’s “unlawful use of force”, victims suffered bodily injury.

Delgado also submitted a CBP Incident Log Report after one of the incidents, where he “falsely reported the occurrence,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Delgado faces up to 10 years in prison for each use of force incident and up to 20 years in prison for the falsification of a document charge.

The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility investigated the case.
