EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court has approved $1.1 million to install over 400 new lights across El Paso County for the Residential Streetlight Capital Improvement Plan.
According to the Commissioners Court agenda meeting notes, the Streetlight Plan is to add over 300 residential streetlights and over 100 mailbox cluster lights within the next five years.
In the agenda, the plan “builds upon insight” from the previous Capital Improvement Plan, but was delayed due to the COVID shutdown.

The Capital Improvement Plan Streetlight Plan is to improve nighttime visibility, continuing the installation of energy-efficient light fixtures, expanding installation to eligible areas and more.
“As a lifelong resident of Montana Vista, I know all too well how dark it can get in our neighborhoods. That’s why my team and I have fought to place street lighting in the areas that need it most, in addition to the mailbox clusters. We are proud to announce that 165 new streetlights will be added throughout East Montana, including Square Dance, Montana Vista, Hillcrest Estates, and Hueco Tanks!
This is real progress for safety and quality of life in our neighborhoods, but we know we still have work to do. Many streets and even our parks remain without adequate lighting, and we’ll keep pushing until every family in Precinct 1 has access to safe, well-lit spaces,” Commissioner for Precinct 1 Jackie Butler said in a social media post.
