EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 56-year-old man was arrested on Monday, July 21, for fraudulent business practices after not completing or refunding a home remodeling project, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).
According to EPCSO, Antonio Chavez was charged with theft of property and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $5,000 bond.

The investigation began after an elderly victim reported hiring Chavez’s business, EP Chavez Construction, for a home remodeling project, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said despite making multiple payments, the victim stated the work was never completed and the company stopped responding.
Over a six-month period, Chavez repeatedly made false assurances to either begin the project or issue a refund, but failed to take any action, EPCSO said.
After compiling sufficient evidence, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for Chavez’s arrest.
“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the community and pursuing justice for all victims. Deceptive business practices and theft are serious offenses, and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to hold offenders accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” read the news release.
