KTSM News – El Paso County to hold second annual gun buyback event

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso County will be hosting its second annual 100 percent anonymous community gun buyback event on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the El Paso County Coliseum.

The County along with the El Paso County Attorney’s and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is offering the public money in the form of prepaid Mastercard gift cards in exchange for their unwanted firearms.

The County says nonfunctional firearms and ammunition will also be accepted. However, ammunition will not be reimbursed and ghost guns will not be accepted.

The County has provided a list of firearms that will be accepted at the event, those are the following:

Non-functioning firearms

$50

Rifles or shotguns

$100

Handguns

$150

Assault rifles

$200

The County says anyone can participate and can turn in up to 10 firearms for prepaid gift cards with no identification needed and no questions asked. All guns that are turned in will be destroyed following county and federal guidelines.
