EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — For more than 20 years, the El Paso District Attorney’s Office has brought together the victims of crimes to show them they are not alone.
They do this through their annual Crime Victims Walk, also known as “Steps Towards Healing.”
This year, the event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26. It begins at the El Paso County Coliseum, 4001 E. Paisano, and ends at the Crime Victims Memorial Park, 610 N. Yarbrough.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the event and the walk begins at 8.
Monday, the El Paso County Commissioners Court honored the DA’s Office for their efforts.
DA James Montoya told KTSM that families who have lost a loved one through an act of crime feel isolated.
“It’s a very lonely experience. It’s a tremendous hole in their hearts and their families,” Montoya said.
“A big part in organizing the walk is to let these families and to let the survivors know, let the victims of crimes know, they are not alone,” Montoya said.
