KTSM News – El Paso Electric customers to get credit during next 3 months

Posted on August 18, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — All El Paso Electric customers in Texas will be getting a credit on their bills for the next three months, the utility said on Monday, Aug. 18.

The average residential customer will receive a credit of approximately $9.61 on their September and October bills, an estimated savings of 7.41%, according to EPE.

On their November bill, the average residential customer will receive a credit of approximately $5.42, an estimated savings of 7.55% for that month, the utility said.

The refund will be reflected on the fuel charge line item on customer bills.

The fuel factor is designed to recover the cost of the fuel used to generate electricity, a cost EPE incurs to generate electricity for its customers. EPE does not earn a profit on fuel costs, it says.

Hearing underway on El Paso Electric’s $93M rate hike proposal

Texas customer refunds will vary based on the rate service they are currently on.

“EPE adjusts fuel factors periodically to more accurately reflect the current and forecasted cost of fuel. In New Mexico, fuel is adjusted monthly,” the company said in a news release.

El Paso Electric is currently seeking a $93 million increase in its base rates that would impact El Paso customers. If approved, that would raise the average monthly bill for residential cusomters in El Paso by about $22 per month.

Earlier this month, an administrative law judge held a hearing on the case.

The Public Utility Commission, which has the final say on the outcome of the case, is expected to make a final decision by January 2026.
