KTSM News – El Paso fallen officer to be honored in Washington DC

Posted on April 18, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police Department fallen officer, Santos Perez, and many other officers nationwide will be recognized during a candlelight vigil in Washington D.C. on Monday, May 13, according to a news release from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The candlelight vigil will be at 8:00 p.m. that Monday in Washington D.C., during the “Role Call of Heroes” Candlelight Vigil.

A total of 282 federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty will be honored and will have their names engraved in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

“As we come together again this year to commemorate the lives of fallen officers, we recognize the profound sacrifice they made in service to their communities and country. Their memory remains a testament to valor and selflessness; two core tenets that a law enforcement officer abides by when being sworn in to service. This solemn ceremony encourages us to never forget their enduring legacy of service and sacrifice,” said CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, William Alexander.

Officers from the Alamogordo Police Department Anthony Dale Ferguson and James M. Sides and one officer from the Taos Ski Valley Department of Public Safety Sammy J. Trujillo will also be honored in the memorial.
