ORIGINAL: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Fire crews knocked down a Condition 3 house fire on Wednesday, April 23, in West El Paso.
According to El Paso Fire, the call came in at 2:18 p.m. on April 23, about a house fire at the 900 block of Broadmoor Drive.
According to Chief Battalion Sergio Armendariz, the fire started in the garage and spread to nearby trees, shrubs and a basketball court.
The fire stayed in the garage and didn’t spread, but there was smoke damage done throughout the house, Armendariz said.
“The condition was upgraded because we didn’t have enough water, cause the hydrant was a low-rated hydrant, and I believe there was a layer between the sheetrock of the ceiling and the roof. So, the fire went in there, and we couldn’t get access to it. That’s why we needed more personnel.” Armendariz said.
It took fire crews roughly one hour to contain the fire, Armendariz said.
According to Armendariz, 21 units responded, and about 45 personnel were on the scene.
No injuries to the residents or firefighters were reported, Armendariz said.
Armendariz said an inspector with the City of El Paso has yet to determine if the house is still livable.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
