EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the distribution of fentanyl causing death or serious bodily injury, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office from the Western District of Texas.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Adrian David Perez, 21, sold counterfeit M-30 pills laced with fentanyl to a person on Oct. 13, 2021. The person consumed the pills and his mother found him dead the following day.
The El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the individual died from acute fentanyl toxicity, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In addition to imprisonment, U.S. District Judge Leon Schydlower sentenced Perez to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $3,800 in restitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) investigated the case.
