EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man who was sentenced on charges related to the capitol breach on Jan. 6, 2021, was recently released from federal prison as a result of President Trump pardoning over 1,500 people who were also sentenced regarding the incident, according to records from the Federal Burea of Prisons and the White House’s website.

Records show that David Rene Arredondo, 48, of El Paso, Texas, was released from prison on Monday, Jan. 20.

As we have previously reported, Arredondo pled guilty in the District of Columbia to eight counts, including two felony charges of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Columbia.

Arredondo also pled guilty to six misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Arredondo traveled with others from his home in El Paso to Washington, D.C., and stayed in the Capitol Hill area.

According to court documents, open-source images, videos, and U.S. Capitol surveillance footage depicted Arredondo inside and around the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.

FBI agents arrested Arredondo on Oct 26, 2022, in El Paso.
