EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 51-year-old man was arrested on Valentine’s Day for attacking two pit bull dogs with a machete last month at a home in El Paso’s Lower Valley, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said.
EPPD said Abel Gonzalez, 51, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 14, and charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals: kill/poison/serious bodily injury with bonds totaling $10,000.
The preliminary investigation revealed that on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Gonzalez arrived at a house located at the 500 block of Myra Street to meet with the person living there, EPPD said.
EPPD said an “altercation” occurred between Gonzalez and two dogs, “Scooby” and “Blue,” who belonged to the person living at the house.
Gonzalez then left the house and the next day on Jan. 29, he returned to the same house and made entry to the backyard where he was approached by the dogs, EPPD said.
EPPD said Gonzalez began to swing the machete at the dogs, striking them several times. He left the scene after assaulting both dogs, EPPD added.
