EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 23-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed and killed a 46-year-old man on Tuesday, July 29, in South El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
Oscar Octavio Ortiz, 23, from Socorro, was arrested on Thursday, July 31, at the Paso Del Norte port of entry for the stabbing death of Rigoberto Cortes, 46, according to EPPD.
El Paso Police said Cortes was charged with murder under a $1 million bond and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
EPPD said that at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to 201 E. Ninth St. for an aggravated assault in progress.
When officers arrived, they located Cortes lying on the street with an apparent stab wound. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, EPPD said.
The Crimes Against Persons unit was called out to take over the investigation.
Though the investigation, police identified Ortiz as the suspect who stabbed and killed Cortes, EPPD said.
