EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 24-year-old man is dead after a T-bone crash involving a motorcycle on Tuesday night, July 1, near the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
As we’ve previously reported, shortly after 9 p.m. on July 1, officers with the Special Traffic Investigations unit were dispatched along the 2500 block of North Mesa to assist in investigating a crash, according to EPPD.
According to EPPD, a preliminary investigation revealed that a small SUV was exiting a private drive and approaching the intersection of Robinson Avenue and North Mesa Street.
The SUV pulled out into Mesa and was T-boned by a motorcycle, which was traveling northbound on Mesa, EPPD said.
EPPD identified the motorcyclist as 24-year-old Cody Arthur McCuan.
EPPD said McCuan was transported with serious injuries but later died at the hospital. The driver of the SUV was unharmed.
According to EPPD, failure to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign on behalf of the SUV may be the contributing factor.
Additionally, speed on behalf of McCuan may also be a contributing factor, according to EPPD.
This is the 31st traffic fatality this year compared to 32 this same time last year, EPPD said.
The Special Traffic Investigations unit is continuing the investigation.
