KTSM News – El Paso Public Libraries encourage reading with challenge program

Posted on January 18, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Readers of all ages are encouraged to join the El Paso Public Libraries’ year-round reading challenge “Reading in the 915.”

The new reading program is aimed at inspiring people to have “the joy of reading, explore the library’s diverse book collection and engage with literacy programs and initiative,” the City of El Paso said in a news release.

“Reading in the 915” is open to all ages and participants can register for the challenge by visiting the El Paso Library‘s website. Once signed up, participants can choose a variety of challenges, track their progress and earn rewards.

Each month, there will be different themes including banned books, Hispanic Heritage, graphic novels and more, the City said.

“Reading in the 915 is about rekindling a love for reading and reconnecting with your local library,” El Paso Public Libraries Director Norma Martinez said. “Our collection includes hardcovers, paperbacks, audiobooks, and eBooks, offering something for everyone in the family. Let’s make El Paso a city of readers once again.”

In addition, participants are asked to keep track of their reading with decals and stickers with different designs each month. Participants who collect all 12 are eligible to win a special prize.

For more information on the challenge or other events, you can visit the El Paso Public Libraries‘ website.
