EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso delegation to the Texas House of Representatives joined with other members of the Texas House Democratic Caucus in a letter praising President Joe Biden’s “life of service and selfless decision” to end his candidacy for re-election. They also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, according to a news release sent out by Rep. Joe Moody’s office.
Each El Paso area state representative had their own words to share about Sunday’s blockbuster news:
Joe Moody (District 78): “Much of this election has been about defining who we aren’t — the anger, division, and fascist push of the extreme right — but Kamala Harris is a bold, energetic representation of who we are and can be. I share the same vision for America she does, one where our values of decency, fairness, and opportunity will open the door to the future our children deserve. I’m behind her 100%.”
Mary González (District 75): “The Biden/Harris Administration has made significant strides for the American people over the last 3 ½ years, and we must continue the momentum. Vice President Harris is a transformational public servant who has always fought for social justice, and I am proud to support her.”
Lina Ortega (District 77): “Unity is key to defeating Trump in November. Vice President Harris is the right choice to lead Democrats across the finish line as our next President. She is a champion for women’s right to choose, fights for working families, and she has come to understand border communities. She is a true long-term committed and successful public servant. She will be able to unite the country.”
Claudia Ordaz (District 79): “I echo the voice of so many Americans in thanking President Biden for his service and proudly join him in endorsing Kamala Harris for President.
“Now more than ever, our country needs continuity, stability and proven leadership that represents the values of all working families. As a daughter of immigrant parents, Kamala has the unique ability to unite our country away from divisiveness and hatred.
I look forward to electing our first female President.”
Eddie Morales (District 74): “At this pivotal juncture in American history, Democrats must stand united to fight for the future of the United States. Vice President Kamala Harris has what it takes to lead the Democratic Party, to energize voters, and unite our country. I stand behind Vice President Harris to be the Democrat Party’s nominee for President of the United States.”
