EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office helped fulfill the dream of a young El Pasoan by swearing him in as “honorary sheriff for the day.”
Even Molina, 15, is a patient with the Pediatric Hospice of El Paso. His mother said his lifelong dream has always been to be a sheriff’s deputy after watching his father-figure serve the community as a police officer.
The ceremony held Wednesday, May 28 included a procession bringing Molina to the EPCSO Headquarters where he was sworn in and badged by Sheriff Richard Wiles.
Molina then went to the Montana Patrol Station where he briefed his deputies followed by a reception where multiple agencies were able to present the teen with patches and challenge coins.
Molina lives with serious ailments, but those closest to him say that has not stopped him from being kindhearted and wanting to help others.
“He is really easy going, and he likes to help people. He’s very loving and caring for everything,” Molina’s mother said.
EPCSO said their agency was honored to be able to give Molina an experience that will create life-long memories.
“We are always happy to engage with the community in this way. This is one of our favorite things. Many of our officers and employees, this is their calling to really be part of the community, make it stronger and make things like this happen for our citizens,” said Vanessa Tena, public affairs director with EPCSO.
