EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso County-based trucking company has filed for bankruptcy in federal court just days before a wrongful death lawsuit it was facing was scheduled to go to trial.
JJ Transports, doing business out of Clint, filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 22, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.
A special jury trial on behalf of the estate of Pedro Rascon Morales was set to begin on Friday, Jan. 26 in El Paso County courts. There is no indication when the trial may be rest.
Morales, 60, was a truck driver whose body was found in the cab of a truck during deadly flooding in Houston in spring 2016.
According to an article from Freightwaves.com, the wrongful death lawsuit sought damages of more than $1 million.
