EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — You can learn about bugs and possibly eat one at the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ Bug Fest this weekend.
Bug Fest will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, at 4001 E Paisano Dr.
The event, sponsored by Truly Nolen, invites guests to learn about different bugs and insects’ morphology, behaviors and habitats, according to the El Paso Zoo’s website.
In addition, the Zoo said visitors will step into the world of spiders, scorpions, crickets, Madagascar hissing cockroaches and more creepy-crawlies to learn about their roles in their environments.
Guests will have the opportunity to eat a bug, such as scorpions, crickets, ants and giant water bugs, during the Bug Tasting and Cook-Off Contest with Truly Nolen.
On Saturday, the cook-off contest will feature El Paso Rhino’s General Manager Corey Heon facing off against Truly Nolen’s Carlos Cruz.
On Sunday, KTSM 9’s Kelly Horyczun will take up the cook-off challenge against Carlos Cruz.
In addition to tasting bugs, guests can also enjoy live performances by mariachi group Los Dragones and DaVinci’s Folklorico team, a magician show and presentations about insects.
