EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Borderland’s regional food bank, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, has a new leader.
The organization named Kris Yagel as interim chief executive officer it announced on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Yagel is an Army veteran and “experienced business leader,” the organizatoin said.
“Kris brings strong leadership skills and a mission-driven focus that will help El Pasoans Fighting Hunger continue to meet the needs of those facing food insecurity in our community,” said Robert Moore, chair of the EPFH board. “The board deeply appreciates him stepping forward to lead our organization as we work to deepen our connections with those we serve.”
Moore also expressed the board’s gratitude to outgoing CEO Susan Goodell, who has led EPFH since 2018.
“We thank Susan for nearly eight years of leadership in the fight against food insecurity in El Paso,” he said.
“It is an honor to be chosen to lead such a dedicated, hard-working team. Hunger is a formidable enemy, but together in partnership with our community, we will advance our cause to reduce its grip on our region,” Yagel said.
Yagel is a 1999 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He served as a military police officer for six years, and has held a variety of sales, management and leadership development roles since leaving the Army. He has been director of strategic development at EPFH since March, the organization said.
He will serve as interim CEO while the board conducts a search for a permanent CEO.
