Posted on January 15, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Star Ceiling (El Paso) art installation will be unveiled in a free and open to the public event on Friday, Jan. 17 at the El Paso Museum of Art (EPMA).

The event will happen from 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 17 with an illumination countdown beginning at 5:45 p.m.

According to the news release by the City of El Paso, the event will include a lightbox-making activity, tours of the installation from EPMA curators, live music and complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, cider and pan dulce.

In addition to the illumination, participants in person and around the world will be able to join in the Star Ceiling event, the City said.

The Star Ceiling is a permanent installation by artist Leo Villareal and was privately funded by EPMA and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, the City said.

According to the City, the art project consists of a 120-feet suspended LED array with 13,500 energy-efficient LEDs activated by the artist in non-repeating patterns.
