EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The City of El Paso is inviting the community to the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens as mountain lions, Franklin and Scout, will predict the winner of this year’s Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, the city announced in a press release Wednesday, Feb. 7.
The event will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the El Paso Zoo.
The city says each mountain lion will cast their vote by picking from two helmet-shaped piñatas (49ers and Chiefs), both filled with identical treats, set out for them by zookeepers.
The event will also serve as the animal’s enrichment for the day. Animal enrichment is provided to animals to provide mental and physical stimulation in their daily lives, according to the city.
The city says the community is encouraged to go dressed in their favorites NFL team jerseys or attire.
Additionally, this will be the first time that the mountain lions will predict the Super Bowl winners.
In previous years, Savannah and Juno (the elephants) predicted the winners of the big game, according to the city.
