KTSM News – EPCC gets nearly $138K for job training programs

Posted on February 25, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Community College (EPCC) held a check presentation ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission’s Skills Development Fund and Vinton Steel at the EPCC Administrative Services Center.

Texas Workforce Commission’s Commissioner Alberto Treviño presented a check for $137,960 to EPCC’s Workforce and Continuing Education Division, EPCC said.

“The grant will support specialized training and development for Vinton Steel, LLC. EPCC will provide more than 5,100 hours of training for the upskilling of 65 new and current employees at Vinton Steel in high demand occupations like Electrical Maintenance Management, Industrial Technicians, and Process Engineers,” EPCC said.

EPCC says the grant will also help fund courses like: Basics of Electricity and Powerflow; Electronic Fundamentals Circuit, Devices, and Applications; Fast Tract English in the Workplace I; Fast Tract English in the Workplace II; Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Fundamentals; Motors & Controls; Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC); Introduction to LEAN/ 5’s; HVAC; TMAC-Manufacturing supervisor/Emotional Intelligence and more.

This comes after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement last week under the new Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program that Vinton Steel, LLC will “invest $229 million and create over 180 new jobs in an expansion of their advanced manufacturing facility that recycles ferrous scrap into new steel products,” EPCC said.
