Posted on February 15, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The community is invited to the opening of a new exhibit, Selena Forever/Siempre Selena, that celebrates and remembers former Grammy Award-winning artist Selena, the City of El Paso announced in a press release.

The new exhibit will be open beginning Thursday, Feb. 15, accoding to the city.

The city says the new exhibit commemorates the enduring legacy of Selena Quintanilla-Perez and her global impact on music, fashion and pop culture.

Her influence extends to El Paso, who to this day continues to inspire new generations while also cementing herself as an icon in the Hispanic community, according to the city.

The city says the exhibit celebrates the proclaimed “Queen of Tejano Music” through monumental photography, Selena-inspired costumes and memorabilia contributed by the El Paso community.

In addition to viewing the exhibit, the city is inviting the community to an event-filled day from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 17.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as dance and cumbia classes, a paper flower workshop and a Selena look-alike contest. There will also be music and live performances by Dj Rodriga Rockmore and Touch Dolls, according to the city.

For those looking for a calmer environment to celebrate Selena’s legacy, the public can join EPMA for the Wellpoint low-sensory hour from 11 a.m. to noon, every Sunday through the close of exhibition.

The city says the Selena exhibit and its accompanying programs are part of the EPMA: Frontera Forward initiative established to advance the understanding and appreciation of the El Paso/Ciudad Juárez border community through the arts. The exhibit runs through Feb. 2025.

For more information on the exhibition and programs available at the El Paso Museum of Art, visit www.epma.art.
