EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 32-year-old man was shot by police after he confronted officers and a family member with a knife on Saturday evening, June 14, in El Paso’s Lower Valley, the El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said.
EPPD said that shortly after 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the 9500 block of North Loop to a report of family violence incident in progress.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a 32-year-old man armed with a knife in each hand. The suspect confronted both a family member and responding officers, refusing to comply with verbal commands, EPPD said.
EPPD said an 8-month veteran of the El Paso Police discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Emergency medical aid was rendered on scene, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident, EPPD said.
EPPD said Crimes Against Persons is continuing with the investigation, as well as the Internal Affairs Shooting Review Team and the Texas Rangers, under standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
