EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department and other local agencies arrested over 60 people and issued nearly 200 citations over Memorial Day weekend.
Police say they conducted 42 arrests for driving while intoxicated, including the following:
- 30 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated
- One person was arrested for driving while intoxicated with an open alcohol container
- Two people were arrested for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15
- Five people were arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood alchool concentration greater than 0.15
- One person was arrested for a felony DWI
- Three minors were arrested for driving under the influence
There were also nine drug-related arrests over the weekend. Six people were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, and three people were arrested for possession of marijuana.
There were also 11 felony warrant arrests conducted, and eight people were arrested by on Justice of the Peace warrants.
Three Class C misdemeanor arrests were also issued. Two minors were arrested for possession of tobacco, and one minor was arrested for consuming alcohol. Another arrest was conducted for criminal mischief.
A total of 191 citations were issued, police said.
“The operation focused on impaired driving, drug offenses, and outstanding warrants — the initiative aimed to enhance public safety and reduce impaired driving incidents ahead of the summer season. No traffic-related fatalities occurred during this time frame,” the Police Department said.
