Posted on August 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 39-year-old man recently confessed to the murder of another man after a verbal argument on Thursday, Aug. 1 in Socorro, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).

Oscar Rodriguez, 39, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting 36-year-old Joel Holguin.

Socorro Police were notified of a possible homicide on Thursday at the 11500 block of Valle Verde, according to EPSCO.

According to EPSCO, officers met with a witness who reported the possible homicide and told police that Rodriguez, who allegedly returned to his residency, was in a verbal argument with Holguin that turned into a fatal shooting.

EPCSO’s Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team also responded to the incident and negotiated Rodriguez’s “peaceful surrender,” where he later confessed to killing Holguin, according to EPSCO.

Rodriguez has been booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $500,000 bond, according to EPCSO.
